The Pioneers started off their indoor track season at the Bellarmine Open at the Norton Center with a bang. The team raced against some good competition and fared well, putting up lots of good marks and times as season openers.

  • Trevor Bush ran very well in his collegiate opener, putting up a 7:18 over 60m and a 23:31 over 200m. Both of these marks make him third overall in Transylvania history in those events.

  • Ellie Thornsbury ran a personal best of 11:32.39 in the 3000m, and Maggie Simmons also had a big personal best over this distance, bettering her previous time by 26 seconds and running a 11:39.91.

  • Hayden Scott threw the weight well, getting a personal best of 11.14m. This increased his previous record of 10.86m by 0.28m.

  • Olivia Sparks won her heat in the 200m with a photo finish, heroically diving across the finish line to take first place. She ran 25:80, her best opener to date.

At the conclusion of the meet, Associate Head Coach Bryce Favors-Charleston was asked how he believes the team performed at this season opener.

"I think we performed well for our season opener. We had some highs and lows but everyone has something to look forward to and improve on in the future which makes me excited for what's to come for our team later in the year" said Coach Favors-Charleston.

You can catch the Pioneers at the second meet of the season back at the Norton Center for the PNC Bellarmine Classic next Friday, January 23rd.
