Transylvania Men's Soccer Remains Unbeaten in HCAC Play With 2-0 Victory Over Anderson

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Transylvania University men's soccer continued its unbeaten run through Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon, defeating Anderson University 2-0 at Pat Deacon Stadium. A pair of goals just over two minutes apart early in the second half propelled the Pioneers to their seventh conference victory of the season.

With the victory, Transylvania improved to 10-2-3 overall and 7-0-1 in HCAC play, while Anderson moved to 6-3-2 overall and 4-2-2 in conference competition.

The Pioneers controlled much of the opening half, generating eight shots while limiting the Ravens to three attempts. Cole Varela provided an early opportunity in the 10th minute, forcing a save from Anderson goalkeeper Braydon Kennedy. Nick Haskins followed with a shot on goal at 15:57, while Tanner Robertson added two attempts on target later in the half. Despite Transylvania's offensive pressure, the teams entered halftime in a scoreless draw. The Pioneers wasted little time changing that after the break.

Just 69 seconds into the second half, McKay Wheatley delivered a corner kick that found Blake Bere, who finished the opportunity at 46:09 to give Transylvania a 1-0 advantage. The goal marked Bere's first of the season.

Less than three minutes into the half, Transylvania struck again.

At 48:20, Gus Dickman found the back of the net off an assist from Varela, doubling the Pioneers' advantage to 2-0. The two goals came just 2:11 apart, turning a scoreless contest into a commanding second-half lead. Transylvania continued to apply offensive pressure throughout the remainder of the match. Varela forced another save at 51:45, while Josh Carr and Alvaro Gonzalez added opportunities during the second half. Kellen Crouch also put an attempt on goal in the 81st minute.

Defensively, the Pioneers limited Anderson to just one shot over the final 45 minutes, maintaining their two-goal advantage through the final whistle. Goalkeeper Ethan Drew played all 90 minutes for Transylvania, recording three saves to secure the shutout. Drew made two stops in the opening half before turning away Anderson's final shot on goal in the 80th minute.

Varela led the Transylvania offense with four shots, including two on goal, and an assist. Robertson added two shots on target, while Haskins and Gonzalez each recorded two attempts.

Bere and Dickman finished with one goal apiece, while Wheatley and Varela each contributed an assist.

Transylvania held a 15-4 advantage in total shots, placing eight attempts on goal compared to three for Anderson. The Pioneers also earned six corner kicks while limiting the Ravens to two.
