NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — Transylvania University volleyball opened HCAC play on the road Friday, falling to Manchester University in three sets at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena. The Spartans took the match 25-21, 25-22, 25-20, moving the Pioneers to 6-10 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The opening set featured four ties and two lead changes before Manchester secured a 25-21 victory. The second was the most tightly contested set of the afternoon, featuring seven ties and four lead changes before the Spartans pulled out a 25-22 win. Manchester closed the match with a 25-20 victory in the third.
Addie Atcher led the Pioneer attack with eight kills, while Peyton Mast followed with seven kills and hit a team-best .263. Payton Avilez added six kills, while Cecelia Roberts finished with five.
Erin Thomas led Transylvania with 15 assists and added six digs, while Megan Sweeney recorded 12 assists, four digs and a service ace. Megan Helander led the defensive effort with 15 digs and added two service aces. Transylvania finished with 29 kills, 29 assists, four service aces and 40 digs. The Pioneers hit .078 for the match, while Manchester finished with 35 kills and a .131 hitting percentage.
Transyvlania returns to action on Wednesday, October 7th, as they host Asbury at 7:00 p.m.
