Transylvania Men's Soccer Battles Hanover to Scoreless Draw

LEXINGTON, KY — Transylvania men's soccer battled Hanover College to a 0-0 draw Wednesday night at Pat Deacon Stadium in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Pioneers moved to 5-2-3 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play, while Hanover moved to 4-3-4 overall and 2-0-1 in the HCAC.

Transylvania controlled the offensive opportunities throughout the opening half, outshooting Hanover 7-0. The Pioneers created their first opportunity in the 12th minute when Stone Work sent an attempt wide of the net. Charles Nichols followed with a header in the 13th minute before Gus Dickman added another header in the 17th minute. Dickman registered the Pioneers' first shot on goal in the 23rd minute, forcing a save from Hanover goalkeeper Dugan Webster. Work and McKay Wheatley each added shots on goal late in the half, but Webster turned away both attempts to send the teams into halftime tied at 0-0.

Hanover generated its first offensive opportunity early in the second half when Andrew Pavlisko tested Ethan Drew in the 51st minute. Drew made the save to preserve the scoreless tie. Nick Haskins recorded a shot on goal in the 50th minute, while Wheatley added another attempt in the 69th minute. Drew continued to anchor the Transylvania defense, making saves on consecutive Hanover opportunities in the 63rd and 71st minutes to keep the Panthers off the scoreboard.

The Pioneers continued to search for the breakthrough goal in the closing minutes. Haskins sent an attempt wide in the 80th minute before Dickman followed with another shot in the 84th minute. Wheatley recorded Transylvania's final shot of the match in the 87th minute, but neither team found the back of the net as the contest ended in a scoreless draw.

Wheatley and Dickman led the Transylvania offense with three shots apiece, each recording one shot on goal. Work and Haskins added two shots each, with both players placing one attempt on target. Drew played all 90 minutes in goal, recording three saves to earn the shutout. Transylvania finished with a 12-4 advantage in shots, putting four attempts on goal compared to three for Hanover. The Pioneers also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
