Jekyll Island, Ga. — Facing one of the most competitive fields in Division III golf, the nationally ranked Transylvania men's golf team earned a T-14 finish at the 2026 Jekyll Island Collegiate, held at Pine Lakes Golf Club. The annual event featured a stacked lineup of nationally ranked programs, including No. 1 Huntingdon, No. 2 Emory, No. 3 Carnegie Mellon and No. 4 Washington & Lee, reinforcing its reputation as one of the toughest tournaments of the season. Transylvania, ranked No. 19, finished the 54-hole event at +8 (863).

The Pioneers came out sharp in Round 1, posting a team score of -1, immediately proving they could compete with the elite field. William Carr led the way with an impressive 70 (-2), taking advantage of the par 5s and navigating the course's toughest holes with composure. Andy Steed and Ty Ruttinger followed with matching rounds of 71 (-1), giving Transylvania three under-par scores to open the tournament.
  • Carr: 70 (-2)
  • Steed: 71 (-1)
  • Ruttinger: 71 (-1)
  • Buchert: 75 (+3)
  • Calhoun: 76 (+4)
The Pioneers' ability to score on the par 5s while limiting mistakes on Pine Lakes' demanding par 3s and long par 4s positioned them well early in the event.

In the second round, Transylvania remained competitive with a +4 team score. Carr continued his steady play with a 71 (-1), while Steed matched him again with another 71 (-1). The Pioneers stayed within striking distance despite tougher scoring conditions across the field.
  • Carr: 71 (-1)
  • Steed: 71 (-1)
  • Ruttinger: 76 (+4)
  • Buchert: 75 (+3)
  • Calhoun: 75 (+3)
Transylvania closed with a +5 team score in Round 3 to secure a T-14 finish. Three Pioneers—Carr, Steed and Buchert—each carded 73 (+1) to lead the team on the final day.

Senior William Carr delivered a standout performance across all three rounds, highlighted by his consistency and scoring ability.
  • Rounds: 70 (-2), 71 (-1), 73 (+1)
