Pioneers Compete At Jim Vargo Invitational

LOUISVILLE, KY - This Saturday, the Pioneers traveled to Louisville, KY to compete at the Jim Vargo Invitational. Taking advantage of fantastic weather and strong competition, they delivered outstanding performances, setting numerous personal bests and new school records. Highlights include:

Olivia Sparks lowered two of her own school records in the 400m and 200m. She opened her day with a 56.11 in the 400m, shaving more than a second and a half off her previous mark to take the meet win. In the 200m, Sparks ran 24.92 to place 4th.

Ella Detjen broke the outdoor 5000m school record, running a personal best of 17:36.40 and earning the meet win.

Hayden Scott had an impressive day in the throws, recording personal bests in both the hammer and discus. He threw 41.44m in the hammer, improving his previous best by nearly three meters. In the discus, he recorded a throw of 38.92m, surpassing his previous personal best set at last week's Pio Invite.

The women's 1500m group—Ellie Thornsbury, Maggie Simmons, and Sophie Richards—all recorded personal bests. In heat two, Simmons and Richards finished nearly side by side in 5:17.22 and 5:17.52, respectively. Thornsbury won heat three with a 10-second personal best of 5:18.93.

Ayden Jackson sprinted to a heat win in the 100m, running a personal best of 11.10, which ranks him 5th in the HCAC.

The women's team also had a strong showing in the 400m, with Peyton Tan, Hannah Cox, and Jatajza Pinkney all setting personal bests. Cox ran 60.28, Pinkney clocked 60.68, and Tan finished in 63.13.

The men's 4x400 relay team—Xander Harris, Markieus Hill, Nate Rogers, and Trevor Bush—closed out the meet with a strong performance. They ran 3:31.38, a season best by over four seconds, ranking them third in the HCAC.

At the conclusion of the meet, Head Coach Matt Andrews shared his thoughts: "We saw tons of great performances because of a real focus on competing. I loved the mindset our group had today, and our results reflected that."

The Pioneers will return to action next Saturday in Danville, KY for the Centre Invitational.
