LEXINGTON, KY — Transylvania earned two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) wins on Sunday at Legends Field, defeating Franklin in both of their afternoon match ups.
Transylvania defeated Franklin 11–1 in game one, utilizing a big third inning to take control, scoring five runs highlighted by a three-run home run from Ethan Dillon. Transylvania added another run in the fourth before breaking the game open in the sixth with four more runs, including Dillon's second three-run home run of the day. Dillon led the offense with a standout performance, finishing with two home runs and six RBI. Seita Shiratori added three hits and an RBI, while Calvin Schubert recorded a hit and two RBI. Brenton Alcorn contributed two hits and an RBI, and Nick Pietromonaco added two hits.
On the mound, Drew Bowles earned the win with a dominant complete game, allowing one run on five hits while striking out 12.
Transylvania defeated Franklin 21–11 in the second game. The Pioneers used a pair of big innings to take control, scoring eight runs in the third inning and adding six more in the fifth to build a commanding lead. Transylvania later capped the scoring with five runs in the eighth inning to secure the victory.
Ethan Dillon led the offensive explosion with three hits, including two doubles, while driving in two runs and scoring four times. Chris Hedinger added three hits, including a triple and a double, with three RBI, while Seita Shiratori recorded three hits and two RBI. Calvin Schubert contributed two hits, including a home run, and three RBI, and Brenton Alcorn added two hits and three RBI.
Joe Murphy provided a spark off the bench with a hit, a double and a run scored, while Nick Pietromonaco and Vinny DeSalvo each added hits in the win. On the mound, Brady McFarland earned the win in relief, allowing one run over two innings. Giancarlo Gonzalez got the start, and the Pioneers used multiple arms to manage the game.
Transylvania improves to 20–9 overall and 12–2 in HCAC play. They travel to take on Earlham on Monday.
