Pioneers Sweep Wilmington To Close Regular Season

LEXINGTON, KY — The Transylvania University Pioneers closed their 2026 regular season with a Sunday afternoon sweep of non-conference opponent Wilmington College.

Transylvania used a balanced offensive attack and timely hitting to defeat Wilmington 7-2 at John & Donna Hall Field in the opening game.

The Pioneers broke open a tight game with a three-run fifth inning and added two more in the sixth to pull away after Wilmington had evened the score at 2-2 in the fourth.

Transylvania tallied 11 hits on the afternoon, led by a strong performance from Avery Parsons, who went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, RBI, and a walk. Ella Steczynski drove in a game-high four runs, including a key two-run double in the fifth inning that gave the Pioneers the lead for good. Taylor Ingram and Lexi Morlan each recorded two hits and scored twice, while Malana Hamm added an RBI triple to help spark the offense.

In the circle, Maddie Goddard earned the win to improve to 10-0, allowing two runs on four hits over four innings. Trinity Bridges provided 2.2 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts, and Olivia Colebank closed out the game. Wilmington was limited to six hits, with Alasandra Spears and Jocelyn Franz each recording two hits, but the Quakers were unable to generate consistent offense after their fourth-inning rally.

Transylvania completed the sweep over Wilmington with a 7-5 win in the second game. The Pioneers used a big sixth inning to break open a 3-3 game, scoring four runs to take control before holding off a late Wilmington rally in the seventh.

Transylvania finished with 11 hits, highlighted by a perfect 3-for-3 performance from Taylor Ingram, who scored twice and drove in a run. Avery Parsons added two RBIs, including a key two-run double in the second inning that gave the Pioneers an early lead.

Anna Russelburg delivered a clutch two-run single in the sixth inning, while Makena Francis drove in a run off the bench to spark the decisive rally. Ella Steczynski also contributed an RBI and scored a run in the win. In the circle, Raegan Gibson earned the win, improving to 6-3 after allowing four runs over six innings. Natalie Contreras picked up the save, working the final inning as Wilmington pushed across two late runs.

Wilmington recorded nine hits, led by Alasandra Spears with three RBIs, but could not overcome Transylvania's late offensive surge.

Up next, the Pioneers will travel to Kokomo, Indiana for the 2026 HCAC Tournament.
