LEXINGTON, KY — Transylvania opened its home schedule Friday night with a three-set loss to Berry College, falling 25-18, 25-18, 25-18 at the Clive M. Beck Center. The Pioneers moved to 2-3 on the season, while Berry improved to 4-1.
The opening set featured three ties and two lead changes before Berry pulled away for a 25-18 victory. The Vikings recorded 11 kills and hit .182 in the first set, while Transylvania finished with seven kills. Berry carried the advantage into the second set, recording 12 kills and hitting .250 on its way to another 25-18 victory. Transylvania recorded eight kills in the frame before entering the third set trailing 2-0.
The Pioneers turned in their best offensive set of the match in the third, recording 10 kills while hitting .103. Berry answered with 14 kills and a .208 hitting percentage to close out the match with its third consecutive 25-18 set victory.
Addie Atcher led Transylvania with nine kills, while
Peyton Mast added eight kills on a .240 hitting percentage.
Payton Avilez finished with three kills, while
Logan Dunham recorded two kills on four attempts without an error for a .500 hitting percentage.
Erin Thomas led the Pioneers with nine assists and added seven digs and two service aces.
Addison Davis finished with eight assists and six digs, while
Julia Brown led the defensive effort with a match-high 20 digs.
Transylvania finished with 25 kills, 25 assists, three service aces and 56 digs. Berry recorded 37 kills while hitting .214 and finished with 53 digs. Transylvania returns to action as the Transy Invite continues Saturday, the Pioneers take on Elmhurst at 12:30 and Saint Benedict at 5:30 p.m.
