WILMORE, KY. — The Transylvania University women's soccer team took a first-half lead Tuesday night at Asbury before the Eagles responded with two second-half goals to defeat the Pioneers 2-1 at Gray Outdoor Venue. The result moved Transylvania to 2-2-1 on the season.
Transylvania struck first in the 28th minute when
Eva Blanke found the back of the net at 27:26, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Blanke's lone shot on target among three attempts in the match.
The Pioneers carried the lead into halftime, but Asbury equalized just 43 seconds into the second half. Anna Sparks scored off an assist from Emily Carpenter at 45:43 to make it 1-1. Sparks struck again at 60:54, this time assisted by Milei Baker, to give Asbury the 2-1 advantage.
Transylvania continued to push for the equalizer.
Gracie Carrigan put two shots on goal in the second half, including an attempt in the 83rd minute that was saved by Asbury goalkeeper Peyton Steiniger. The Pioneers also generated three corner kicks over the final six minutes but were unable to find the tying goal.
Carrigan finished with three shots and two shots on goal, while Blanke recorded three shots and Transylvania's lone goal.
Shelby Eidson and
Ginger Mooser each added a shot as the Pioneers finished with eight total attempts and three on goal.
Chandler Worth played all 90 minutes in goal for Transylvania and recorded five saves. The Pioneers finished with a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks, while Asbury held an 11-8 advantage in shots.
Transylvania returns to action on Saturday, September 19
th as they host Wittenberg at Pat Deacon Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
