LEXINGTON, KY. — Transylvania fell to Ohio Wesleyan 11-0 Monday evening at Pat Deacon Stadium. The Pioneers moved to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while Ohio Wesleyan improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0.
Ohio Wesleyan established an early advantage with five goals in the opening period. Grace Ammon scored twice in the first, while Reagan Shifflett, Mary Powers and Violette Alcantar each found the back of the cage to give the Battling Bishops a 5-0 lead after 15 minutes. The Battling Bishops added two goals in the second period to send Ohio Wesleyan into halftime with a 7-0 advantage.
Transylvania goalkeeper Ruby Himes recorded five saves in the opening half and added two more in the third period to finish the night with seven saves. Himes played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pioneers in her season debut. Ohio Wesleyan added two goals in both the third and fourth periods to close out the 11-0 final. Powers scored her second goal of the night in the third, while Madeleine Powell also found the cage. Nova Dekker and Annabel Fauver accounted for the two fourth-period goals. Transylvania generated its offensive opportunities in the second half. Lucy Cohen recorded the Pioneers' lone shot at the 38:31 mark, while Transylvania earned penalty corners in both the third and fourth periods.
"First, credit to OWU. They're a strong program, and they played really well today. They capitalized on their opportunities and did a good job possessing the ball," said Head Coach Erin McCrudden. "Obviously, an 11–0 result is difficult to accept, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. But we're in the middle of building something, and growth isn't always comfortable. Right now, our job is to continue showing up, learning from these moments, and competing for each other. The scoreboard tells part of the story, but it doesn't define who we are or where we're going. We have to stay together, keep believing in the process, and come back ready to be better tomorrow."
Up next, Transylvania travels to Meadville, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, September 19, to take on Allegheny College.
