LEXINGTON, Ky. - Oberlin broke open a tight contest with three goals over the final 13 minutes Monday, taking a 5-0 decision over Transylvania in college field hockey play at Hall Field.
Transy is 1-12 on the season while Oberlin, members of the North Coast Athletic Conference, is 6-9.
The Yeowomen scored first, hitting the scoreboard just eight minutes into the contest. It remained 1-0 until the visitors tallied again just three minutes before halftime.
Oberlin had 18 shots in the first half to eight for the Pioneers and finished with a 29-21 edge. Transy did outshoot Oberlin in the second half, though, 13-11. Transy also had 11 penalty corners to nine for Oberlin.
Oberlin's first goal of the second half came in the 58th minute and its final two came within a four-minute span late in the contest.
Anna Melnykovych (Louisville, Ky.) had seven saves in goal for Transy.
The Pioneers will complete their regular season with a pair of home games next weekend. They will take on DePauw Saturday at noon before hosting Senior Day activities against Sewanee Sunday at 1 p.m.
