Tigers hold off Pioneers, 4-1

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Transylvania spotted Wittenberg a 3-0 first-half lead Friday and the Tigers hung on to defeat the Pioneers 4-1 in college field hockey action.

Transy is now 3-9 on the season while Wittenberg upped its record to 8-7.

Sydney Katz (Louisville, KY, Eastern) scored Transy's only goal off a Kerri Kolarik (Louisville, KY, Eastern) assist in the 66th minute when she emerged from a scrum in front of the goal to slap the ball in. After scoring three goals in the first half, the Tigers managed only one late score, getting their fourth goal at the 64:55 mark.

Transy had three shots to 29 by Wittenberg. Transy keeper Sara Aschbacher (Louisville, KY, Sacred Heart Academy) made 15 saves.

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Oberlin for a noon matchup.
