HANOVER, Ind. - Transylvania and Hanover battled to a scoreless tie through regulation and two overtime periods Wednesday before the Panthers advanced on penalty kicks 4-2 in Heartland Conference women's soccer semifinal action.
The Pioneers (14-3-1) entered the tourney as the No. 3 seed while the Panthers (14-2-1) received the No. 2 seed. No. 1 Earlham was upset by No. 4 Bluffton 3-2 in the other semifinal contest, giving Hanover the home field advantage in Saturday's HCAC Championship.
Transy won last year's final as the No. 2 seed with a road victory over Earlham, earning the HCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
Hanover managed 12 shots to just six for coach Mike Fulton's Pioneers. The home team also had a 7-3 edge in corner attempts.

Kara Hansel, a senior playing in her final game, had six saves. Five different Pioneers had shots, with
Ashley Cobane leading the way with a pair.
In the shootout, Hanover went first and made its attempt. The Pioneers fell behind when
Amy Ghibaudy missed her shot against Hanover keeper Taylor Butcher. After Hanover connected for the second time,
Anne Marie Dumaine found the net, making it 2-1.
The Panthers were again successful on its third attempt while Transy got a score from senior
Elizabeth Schmitt. In the fourth round, Hansel got the save on a Panther try, but
Kari Dailey misfired for the Pioneers. A fourth goal by Hanover's Olivia Selm clinched the verdict for Hanover in the fifth and final round.
It was also the final game for a third senior, forward
Sammi Migliozzi.
Hanover also defeated the Pioneers in a tough regular season contest by a 2-0 count.
