LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Ben Kuebbing (Burlington, Ky.) blasted three home runs in Transylvania's 19-5 win against Hanover Thursday in a Heartland Conference baseball contest at Marquard Field.
The Pioneers are 19-7, 10-4 HCAC, while the Panthers are 13-18, 8-9 HCAC. The game was postponed for two days due to storms.
The contest marked the final home regular season appearance for the Pioneers, who recognized seniors Drew Zuckerman (Lexington, Ky.), Thomas Tolliver (Wurtland, Ky.), Evan Rhea (Louisville, Ky.), Ben Kuebbing, Eric Brady (Louisville, Ky.) Nick Lawson (Louisville, Ky.), and Michael Moir (Louisville, Ky.) prior to the game.
Kuebbing went 5-5 on the afternoon, hitting three home runs, two singles and producing seven RBIs. Also hitting home runs for the Pioneers were Ken Riley (Lexington, Ky.) and Adam Daniels (Clayton, N.C.).
The game was tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the second inning Riley opened the game up with a two RBI home run. The Pioneers continued their rally in the third inning by scoring seven runs off of six hits. Ryan Troehler (Loveland, Ohio) hit a two RBI double, and then scored off an RBI single of Tolliver. Tolliver was 2-5 scoring two runs with one RBI. Transy led 10-1 after three.
There was no looking back after the third. Hanover held Transy to a 12-4 game until the seventh inning, when the Pioneers scored five more runs off five hits. In the eight inning, Daniels picked up his first career home run also scored Michael Moir, who picked up a hit earlier in the inning. The Pioneers closed out the inning in the ninth and took the 19-5 win.
Taylor Bugh (Louisville, Ky.) picked up his sixth victory of the season after pitching five innings. He gave up three runs off of four hits and struck out two.
Transy is back in action at Earlham on Saturday, meeting the Quakers in a 3 p.m. doubleheader. The two teams meet in a single game on Sunday at noon.
