WOOSTER, Ohio - Transylvania's
Sara Clark scored the game-winning goal in the 47th minute Sunday and a strong Pioneer defensive effort made it stand up in a 2-1 field hockey victory over Wooster in a non-conference matchup.
The Pioneers spotted the Scots a 1-0 lead just 11:20 into the contest, but it would prove to be the last score of the day for the home team.
Transy (2-13) tied the contest on a goal by
Brittany Rebalsky just four minutes before intermission. The goal was set up off a corner and a pass from the right wing.
Clark, who also had a goal in Saturday's match with Sewanee, got the game-winnter at the 46:03 mark, with
Kerri Kolarik getting the assist when she deflected the ball to Clark. It was Clark's fourth goal of the year and the first for Rebalsky.
Sara Aschbacher had 17 saves in goal for the Pioneers and
Lydia Lee had four additional defensive saves.
Kayla Thurlow also was credited with a defensive save.
"It was a great game," said head coach Tiffany Underhill. "We fought so hard.
Sara Aschbacher was just lights out. I was very pleased. Everyone played so well."
Wooster took 33 shots to three for Transy. Wooster also had a 20-3 edge in penalty corners.
Transy will complete regular season play on Friday, when it hosts Centre in a Southern Athletic Association match at 7 p.m. at Hall Field. It has been designated a Shut Out Cancer event, calling attention to breast cancer awareness.
