HANOVER, Ind.- Transylvania sophomore
Nicole Coffman scored a career-high 28 points Saturday, propelling the Pioneers to a 71-63 win over Adrian in the final round of the Hanover Classic.
The Pioneers (1-1) never relinquished the lead after the opening minute of play although Adrian (0-2) kept the contest mostly close throughout.
Transy shot 46 percent from the field, but was out rebounded by the Bulldogs, 41-34. The contest proved to be full of turnovers for both squads as the Pioneers assist to turnover ratio was 14-19, and Adrian struggled with only nine assists to 23 turnovers.
Coffman led all scoring efforts with 28 points, with a field goal percentage of 67 percent. Also adding double digits for the Pioneers were freshmen
Alex Botkin with 14 points, her collegiate high, and
Katelyn Smith, who added 11 in her second game in a Pioneer uniform. Botkin also pulled down 10 rebounds, earning her first double-double of her career.
Alex McKenzie added nine points, while
Madisen Webb contributed five points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Lauren Rhoads led Adrian in points with 15, while a total of nine Bulldogs added points. Adrian shot five of 17 from beyond the arc to the Pioneers two of eight effort.
The Pioneers will return to the court after the holiday when they travel to Spalding on Nov. 27.
