Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Barrett Meyer poured in 19 points, leading four Transylvania players in double digits Tuesday, and the Pioneers held off Spalding 62-61 in men's college basketball action.

The 16th-ranked Pioneers improved to 2-1 on the season while the Eagles drop to 0-1.

Transy led 37-25 at halftime and had to fend off a furious Spalding comeback down the stretch. Freshman Parker Stansberry added 17 points for Transy, Ethan Spurlin totaled 13 points and seven rebounds, and Brandon Rash contributed 10 points and four rebounds. Meyer tied for the team rebounding lead with seven.

Rash improved his career scoring mark to 1,014 points, moving him to No. 41 on the all-time list. He passed Steve Hatton and Chris Huffman. Next up is John Hart at 1,015 and Sonny Voyles at 1,017.

Spurlin and Rash each had three assists for Transy.

Transy hit 43 percent of its field goal attempts (21 of 49) while Spalding was 23 of 61 for 38 percent. The home team had a 30-21 edge in three-point goals while the Pioneers outscored the Eagles 13-5 from the free throw line.

Jametrius Brasher had 18 points and 10 rebounds to key the Eagles and Dewhon McAfee also tallied 18 points.

Two free throws by Stansberry gave Transy a 60-56 lead with 1:20 to play and following a Spalding three by Brandon Goeing, Stanberry canned a layup to restore the Pioneers' margin to 62-59. Spalding got a layup to pull within one, but missed a three at the buzzer than could have meant a win.

Transy had a 38-31 edge in rebounding and committed nine turnovers to three for the Eagles.

The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday, when they travel to Danville to take on Centre at 7 p.m. in Alumni Gym.
