Nicole Coffman tossed in 14 points and
Charli Fant added 12, propelling Transylvania to a 60-42 win over Rose-Hulman Saturday in women's Heartland Conference basketball action.
The Pioneers (11-10, 9-5 HCAC) came into play in fourth place in the conference race while the Engineers (6-15, 4-10 HCAC) were seventh, a game out of the sixth and final spot in the league tournament later this month.
Transy went on a 21-9 run midway through the first half to turn an 11-10 deficit into a 31-20 advantage at the 3:40 mark. The Pioneers led at halftime by 11, 33-22. Fant led the way with nine points while McKenzie added six points and six rebounds.
The Pioneers shot 44 percent in the first half, compared to 42 percent for the home team. Transy held a 20-14 advantage on the boards in the period. The Pioneers outscored the Engineers 24-6 in the paint over the first 20 minutes.
Coffman improved her streak of 10 double-figure scoring games to 11 in a row. She also had six rebounds and three assists.
Kayla Dobson just missed her first double double, scoring 10 points and hauling in nine boards. Valeria Whitlock and
Jariana Gillespie combined for 11 points off the bench.
McKenzie finished with six points and eight rebounds.
Transy finished the game shooting 38 percent from the field and was six of 16 from long range. Transy also outrebounded the Engineers, 42-30, and ended up with a 32-12 advantage in the paint.
Rose-Hulman, which shot 36 percent from the field, was led by Alisa Dickerson, who had 14 points and five boards. The Pioneer reserves outscored their counterparts, 13-0.
Transy is back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Mt. St. Joseph for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
