DANVILLE, Ky. - Transylvania allowed five first-half goals on Saturday before steadying its defense over the final 35 minutes and the Pioneers went on to fall to Centre 6-1 in Southern Athletic Association field hockey action.
The Pioneers (1-8, 0-4 SAA) gave up an early goal in the seventh minute to fall behind 1-0 then battled the Colonels (4-4, 2-2 SAA) evenly before the home team put together three scores in a five-minute span midway through the half. It was 5-0 at intermission.
Transy's goal was scored by
Caroline Mrowiec at the 58:50 mark, making the score 5-1. Centre was unable to score until less than five minutes was left in the contest.
Sara Aschbacher had 11 saves for Transy, which totaled six shots overall. Centre attempted 39 shots. Transy also had five penalty corners to nine for the home team.
Molly Dean,
Kayla Thurlow, and
Sydney Katz each was credited with a defensive save.
Transy is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Hendrix for a noon matchup with the Warriors.
