LEXINGTON, Ky. – Transylvania led from start to finish Wednesday and grinded out a 53-42 win over Mt. St. Joseph in men's Heartland Conference basketball action at the Beck Center.
The Pioneers are 12-4, 7-2 HCAC, while the Lions, losers of nine in a row, are 5-11, 4-5 in league action.
Brandon Rash made six of 10 shots and led the Pioneers with 12 points. He also had seven rebounds.
Barrett Meyer added 11 points while
Parker Stansberry and reserve
Taylor Botkin notched nine apiece. Stansberry led the team with nine rebounds.
Transy shot 39 percent from the field while holding the Lions to 37 percent. Transy also had a 16-8 scoring edge at the free throw line. Andy Countryman led Mt. St. Joseph with 10 points.
Ethan Spurlin was honored prior to tipoff for reaching the 1,000-point plateau at Transy. He is the third Pioneer to reach that total this season and the 45th in the history of the men's program. Spurlin had eight points and four rebounds in the contest.
Transy built a lead of as many as 12 points in the first half, which ended with the home team on top, 21-13. Rash and Meyer each scored six points to lead the Pioneers while no Mt. St. Joseph player had more than three.
