Box Score DEFIANCE, Ind. â€" Senior guard Madisen Webb's hot-shooting took center stage on Saturday, as she netting 28 points in the Pioneers' 65-59 win over conference foe, Defiance.

Webb went 6-13 from the floor and a perfect 12-12 from the charity stripe, also notching two steals and an assist in the season-high game. Sophomore guard Katelyn Smith and junior guard Nicole Coffman added to the win, recording 10 and nine points, respectively, with each forcing three turnovers.

The Pioneer's intense defensive pressure forced Defiance to give up 25 turnovers in which Transylvania converted into 25 total points, 19 alone in the first half.

"We played excellent full court defense today," said Head Coach Greg Todd. "The biggest key for us was to cause 25 turnovers. Defiance did a nice job on us defensively, but I was pleased with 16 of 17 free throws and only 11 turnovers."

The first half saw quick early lead by the Pioneers, which was challenged on at least three separate occasions as the Yellow Jackets closed the gap with three minutes remaining to four.  The Pioneers responded, netting the last four shots of the half, providing a comfortable 10-point cushion by halftime.

Transylvania stretched the lead to 18-points with nine minutes left in regulation, making the game primed for a Transylvania victory.
But the Yellow Jackets refused to give up.

Defiance chipped away at the hefty lead. While Transylvania went 7-26 in the second, the Yellow Jackets began hitting big shots, including a pair of 3-pointers by Erica King, in the final stretch to close the gap to six. But, it was the impressive Pioneer free-throw shooting by Webb that kept the team alive, netting six-straight shots in the remaining minute of game play.

Transylvania remains atop the Heartland Conference, improving their record to 5-1 on the season, and a perfect 3-0 in conference play.

The Pioneers kick off the annual Pat Deacon Classic on Monday, hosting Midway College at 6 p.m.
