HANOVER, Ind. â€" Senior
Madisen Webb earned her first career triple-double, and the first of more than a decade for Transylvania women's basketball, racking up 16 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds, as the Pioneers notched their tenth-straight victory in a win over Hanover, 103-91.
Webb went 6-for-11 from the floor, 2-for-3 from the three, and 100 percent from the charity stripe. Webb leads conference in assists and free throw percentage, is second in 3-pointers, and third in total points. Teammate, junior
Alex McKenzie, also made her mark in the victory, tallying her fourth double-double of the season, leading in scoring with 22 points and 12 rebounds.
Transylvania's offensive success was due in part to the teams' fantastic scoring balance, as six individuals recorded double figures in the contest. In addition to Webb and McKenzie, sophomore
Katelyn Smith and junior
Nicole Coffman netted 18 points each, while sophomore
Alex Botkin tallied 14. The matchup also saw the emergence of freshman
Hannah Neeley, who contributed 14 points, three rebounds and a steal in her 20 minutes off the bench.
The Pioneers came out to a hot start, allowing the Panthers to lead only once during the contest at the 16
th minute mark in the first half. After gaining a solid six-point lead with 12 minutes left in the first, Transylvania sailed, maintaining the cushion for the remainder of the contest. The Pioneers widened the lead to 24 with four minutes left in regulation, sealing the win.
The team recorded nearly 50 percent shooting percentage from the field and dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Panthers 61-37.
"We played awesome on the offensive end," said Head Coach Greg Todd. "Our scoring balance was excellent. We were also pleased with our effort rebounding."
The Pioneers had a tough night defensively, however, committing 24 turnovers to Hanover's 14, and committed nearly double the amount of fouls.
Coach Todd gave credit to Hanover's defensive pressure, forcing the Pioneers to play competitively.
"We had a tough time stopping Hanover," said Todd. "They shot well and we sent them to free- throw line too much. They have a lot of offensive weapons."
The victory pushes the Pioneers to an 11-1, 4-0 record, remaining undefeated in conference play. Transylvania will look to continue their success on Saturday, as they face Manchester at home in a double-header with men's basketball at 1 p.m.
