Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky.—The Transylvania University field hockey
team lost to visiting Rhodes College on Saturday by a score of
8-1.
Rhodes was spurred on by goals in the 6th, 8th, 30th and 33rd
minutes and took a 4-0 lead to the locker room after the first 35
minutes. The Lynx did not slow up their torrid scoring pace in the
second half, recording four goals in the first 6 minutes of the
half.
The Pioneer defense would stiffen up, however, as they would
hold Rhodes scoreless in the remaining twenty-nine minutes. In
addition, Transylvania would tack on a goal in the 63rd minute when
freshman midfielder Jessica
Chandler beat the Rhodes goalkeeper for Transy's lone score in
the match.
Transylvania was unable to keep up with the offensive flurry
from the visitors. Ultimately, the Lynx were able to capitalize on
their scoring opportunities, converting at a much higher rate than
the Pioneers. In the match, Rhodes managed to take 14 shots and put
eight on target; the Pioneers mustered seven shots and three on
target.
The loss takes the Pioneers' record to 1-13 on the season and
0-7 in SAA play. Transylvania's season will end tomorrow in a home
match against Hendrix. The team will recognize seniors Sara Clark, Lydia
Lee, Macauley Schifferdecker and Sara Aschbacher,
as the two will close out their careers at Transy, in a ceremony
before the match.
