Box Score SEWANNEE, Tenn. ---- Transylvania University field hockey traveled to Sewanee University to take on the Tigers in Southern Athletic Conference action on a beautiful Sunday morning at Pruett Field. The Pioneers, who have seen an increased offensive production, looked to claim a victory before returning from a two-game road trip.
The Pioneers struck first in the game on an unassisted goal by Junior Forward Jessie Wilson. Wilson netted her second goal of the season at 25:22 of the first half. Sewanee answered the Pioneer goal in a little over a minute to tie the game at 1-1. Defense took over for the remainder of the half led by Allyson Benz who stopped 11 shots from the Tigers in the half. The second half saw the Pioneers get good looks at the goal, but could not find the back of the net during the period. Sophomore Jessica Chandler took three shot into the Tigers defense keeping Pioneer pressure on the attack. Sewanee netted two goals in less than three minutes at the beginning of the second half to give the final score of the game, 3-1.
Goalkeeper Allyson Benz was strong in net-minding duties facing 29 shots, making 13 saves over the course of the 70 minute contest. Senior Faye Katz had the Pioneers other shot on goal for the game.
Coach Sarah Humphries was noted some positive things during today's game. "We played very well this weekend. I am so pleased with this team. We are improving with every game, which is great to see as a coach. Every single person stepped up this weekend and played well."
In commenting about her player's performance during this two-game road swing for the Pioneers. "Jamie Wilder had a fantastic game against Bethany. Jessie Wilson and Alexis Rubin were key players for us today against Sewanee. Ally Benz had another outstanding weekend in the cage."
The Pioneers will return to action on Wednesday, October 14th to take conference rival Center. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
