Box Score HANOVER, Ind.—The Transylvania University men's soccer team dropped a tightly contested matchup with the host Hanover College Panthers in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinal match on Tuesday, 1-0.
The Pioneers battled throughout, playing the HCAC regular season champions and tournament number one seed close, going shot for shot with the Panthers in the contest, but ultimately, Hanover netted the lone goal in the match in the 55th minute. Transy fired off 13 shots in the contest to Hanover's 14, but were only able to put one on goal. Matt Melzer's shot attempt in the 88th minute represented the Pioneers' best chance on goal, but it was narrowly saved by the Hanover goalkeeper.
Transy opened the match strongly with several looks at goal, including four shots in the first 15 minutes. Midfielder Riley Calhoon started things with a shot in the 9th minute but missed wide left, followed by a shot from midfielder Tyler Joy-Brandon at the 10:34 mark but his attempt was blocked. Three minutes later, it was Calhoon who again fired off a shot but was blocked by a Panther defender. After the Panthers took the lead, Transylvania committed more men forward, looking for the equalizing goal but were unsuccessful.
