Sewanee's depth helps Tigers to win over Pioneers in home opener

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The homestanding Transylvania University field hockey team fell in their home opener to Sewanee, 5-0, Saturday at Pat Deacon Stadium.

Goalkeeper Katie Jackel and the Pioneer defense held the Tigers scoreless until the 12:44 mark in the first half when a goal from Kat Mulligan gave Sewanee a 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers' played relentlessly on both sides of the ball, but Sewanee's deep roster began to wear down on the Pioneers.

The Tigers added two goals late in the first half to carry a 3-0 lead into the half, before adding two goals in the second half for the win.

Transy travels to Rhodes College Sept. 19 to take on the Lynx. Saturday's game is slated for 12 p.m.
