Box Score Lexington, Ky. –The Transylvania women's soccer team claimed a 4-0 victory over the Earlham University Quakers on Wednesday night at Pat Deacon Stadium thanks to a trio of first-half Pioneer goals.
Playing her last game at Pat Deacon Stadium, senior midfielder Erin Koch took control of the game early on, as she broke the scoreless match open by scoring a goal in the 14th minute of the match.
Transylvania would control the game for the rest of the half, as the Pioneers outshot the Quakers 12-1 in the period.
Just before halftime, the Pioneers added two insurance goals to put the game out of reach from the Quakers. In the 41st minute, sophomore forward Maddie Sjogren put a shot past the Earlham goalkeeper into upper right corner of the goal.
Then just over a minute later, sophomore midfielder Bailey Browning scored a goal off of a setup pass from sophomore midfielder Gabby Prevost, raising the Pioneers' advantage to 3-0 to head into the halftime break.
The second half of the game would prove to be much more physical than the first. Transylvania and Earlham combined for a total of nine fouls and two yellow cards in the second half.
The lone goal of the second half came when the Pioneers were awarded a penalty kick late in the contest, which senior defender Nicole Dal Pozzo converted for her first career goal at Transylvania, to put a stellar signature upon her career in front of hometown fans in Lexington.
The win pushes the Pioneers record to 3-11-2, and 3-5 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, which is good for sixth place in the overall standings.
Senior goalkeeper Morgan Potts recorded two saves en route to earning her first shutout win of the season, and completing her career with a clean sheet.
The win likely completes the season for the Pioneers, who have one final regular season game scheduled at Bluffton on Saturday. After being eliminated from Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament contention earlier this month, the Pioneers face a unique situation with their upcoming opponent in the Beavers.
With Bluffton facing a shortage of players, it is likely that the Beavers would have to accept a forfeit against Transylvania, automatically awarding the Pioneers a win to complete their regular season schedule. The projected forfeiture on Saturday would complete the Pioneers' record at 4-11-2 overall, and 4-5 in the HCAC standings.
