Anderson, IN - The Transylvania men's tennis team continued their charge through Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 9-0 mastery of Anderson on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers improved to 3-0 in HCAC action after sandwiching a Wednesday thriller against Hanover with 9-0 results against Defiance and Anderson most recently.
Transylvania cultivated momentum in doubles play as the #1 team of Zachary Meikle and Robert Albrecht made quick work of their competition in an 8-0 win against Andrew Gingerich and Zachary Edwards. Sam Hodgson and Joshua Buckman followed suit in their #3 doubles match versus Jacob Hopper and Jesse Greene with an 8-1 victory.
The most intense doubles match was the #2 contest as Dylan Conner and Luke Groene of Transylvania outlasted Chase Kimmerling and Zachary Van Duyn 8 to 6.
The positive play lasted into singles matches for Transylvania as Albrecht dictated his match with Edwards, winning 6-1, 6-0 in the #1 singles match. Needing just one more win to officially seal the match against Anderson, all the rest of the Pioneers cruised forward with a customary win against the Ravens. Meikle took control of his #2 singles duel with Gingerich, winning 6-0, 6-3. Conner weathered the consistent salvos of Kimmerling in the #3 singles match before taking over with a 6-4, 6-3 straight set win.
In #4 singles, Buckman also managed a solid victory of Van Duyn with a 6-2, 6-0 win. In #5 and #6 singles, Groene and Hodgson each yielded just a game each to their opponents as Groene defeated Hopper 6-1, 6-0. Hodgson swept the first set against Anderson's Greene before winning the second set, 6-1.
The Pioneers make a quick turnaround down the road as they visit Earlham in a pivotal match for conference supremacy. The match is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday before the Pioneers return home for a week of finals.
