Earlham, IN – In a battle of two of the top teams in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tennis landscape, the Earlham Quakers fought off the Transylvania men's tennis team, winning 7 to 2 on Sunday.
Earlham, the reigning first-place team in the HCAC tennis landscape in 2015 fought off the Pioneers in three doubles match to take control of the day. The #2 doubles duo of Dylan Conner and Luke Groene fought Adarsh Singh and Adam Schwartz to the brink, but the Earlham pair eventually won the pro-set, 8 to 5. Similar results followed in the other two doubles matches as the Quakers headed to singles action up 3-0 on the day.
#1 Robert Albrecht gave Vitalii Stadnyk a concerted effort in the second set before falling, 6-1, 6-4. Meikle delivered an excellent performancein #2 singles action, beating Singh 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets.
The Pioneers took back points in the #4 doubles match, as Joshua Buckman cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win against Earlham's Adam Schwartz.
The Pioneers will pause for finals week before they return to action on Saturday as they host Manchester at home. The collection of matches is set for 10:00 a.m.
