Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's tennis team continued to show improvement, as the Pioneers battled the Anderson University Ravens, before falling by the final score of 8-1 in their pro-style matchup at the Lexington Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon.
The match marked the final home competition for Transylvania senior Eli Hack, who was honored in a ceremony before the start of Saturday's match.
The team of Hack and junior Eric Sandknop gave the Ravens a fight in No. 1 singles before losing 8-5. The Pioneers would go on to drop No. 2 singles, and forfeit No. 3 singles.
The Pioneers rebounded early in the singles competition, as junior Luke Groene dominated No. 1 singles, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
After dropping matches in No. 2 and No. 3 singles, the Pioneers looked to be on the rebound, as junior Esteban Favetto forced a third and deciding set of his No. 4 singles match before falling by the final score of 6-2, 6-7, 1-0.
The Pioneers dropped the decision at No. 5 singles and were once again forced to forfeit a match in No. 6 singles, bringing the match's final score to 8-1 in favor of Anderson.
With the home portion of their schedule complete, the Pioneers will next travel to face the Hanover College Panthers on Tuesday, April 25. The pro-style match is set to start at 4:00 p.m. at the Zeddies Tennis Center in Hanover, Indiana.
