Transylvania Field Hockey cruises to 1-0 victory against Converse

Box Score

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania field hockey team earned a 1-0 victory over the Converse College Valkyries at Pat Deacon Stadium on Friday night, thanks to a first-half goal from sophomore midfielder Tori Coleman.

Transylvania controlled the ball throughout the first half, as the Pioneers outshot the Valkyries 10-3 in the period, and earned seven penalty corners in comparison to just one for Converse.

With just under 10 minutes to go in the first half, junior midfielder Alyson Bergman made a beautiful pass towards goal that found a waiting Coleman, whose scoring strike proved to be the difference in the game.

Junior goalkeeper Allyson Benz continued her string of strong performances as she collected two saves in the game. The victory was Benz's second shutout of the young season.

The Pioneers will continue their current homestand as they face the College of Wooster Fighting Scots on Sunday afternoon, September 17. The game is set for an 11:00 a.m. start at Pat Deacon Stadium.
