Box Score

Cincinnati, Ohio – The No. 8/9 Transylvania women's basketball team turned in another businesslike win, courtesy of the three-point shot on Wednesday evening at the Harrington Center, winning 79-57 over the Mount St. Joseph University Lions to extend its season-best win streak to 12 games.

The Pioneers established a 13-point lead after one quarter and used it as a springboard to move to 15-1 overall and a perfect 9-0 in the first half of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Mount St. Joseph fell to 4-12 overall and 3-6 within conference competition.

Ashton Woodard posted eight of her game-high 20 points in the first quarter and was joined by her senior counterpart Shelby Boyle with another eight points in the opening period to pace the Pioneers to a dominant win on Wednesday.

Elevated to a season-high national ranking of no. 8 one day before by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, the Pioneers entered the Harrington Center court on Wednesday laser-focused, scoring the first 11 points of the game on an opening steal and trey by Woodard, and two more triples by Grace Shope.

The Lions scored their first bucket on a triple with 6:28 left in the quarter, but Boyle joined in on the outside barrage with her first 3-pointer of the game for a 14-3 outlook. The run continued when Kennedi Stacy sank a 3-pointer on the next possession, followed by two more 3-pointers from Boyle and Woodard as the Pioneers cruised to a 23-6 start.

Mount St. Joseph relied on pinpoint two-point shooting in the second quarter to play the Pioneers even for the second stanza of the night, translating to a 42-29 Transylvania halftime advantage.

The Pioneers received a balanced attack to begin the second half as seven different players scored in the third quarter, led by six points and three dimes from Woodard, and five points and five rebounds from Elizabeth Hardiman on the way to a 66-46 lead.

Transylvania's defense put a capper on the night by holding Mount St. Joseph to 4 of 13 shooting in the final quarter to sharpen its hold on first place in the HCAC standings.

Hardiman finished the night with seven points and 12 rebounds while Boyle turned in an all-around display of 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and one steal. Woodard added four assists, one rebound, and a steal to her game-high 20 points. Shope was the other double-figure scorer for Transylvania with 12 points on the evening.

The Pioneers resume their schedule on Saturday afternoon at home as they host the Anderson University Ravens to begin leg two of the HCAC schedule. The Pioneer and Raven women will tip-off a women's and men's doubleheader at the Beck Center in Lexington at 3:00 p.m., followed by the men's matchup at 5:00 p.m.
