Lookout Mountain, Ga. – The Transylvania men's tennis team fell to the Covenant College Scots by the final count of 6-3 at the Covenant Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops Transylvania's record to 1-5 on the season, while the Scots improve to 4-2.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead following an 8-3 victory by Nick and Noah McNamee at No. 1 doubles. However, the Scots claimed the next two matches to take a 2-0 lead.
In singles play, Noah McNamee captured a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles, before teammate Parker Rowton claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles to even the score.
With the match tied 3-3, the Scots overpowered the Pioneers to win the final three singles matches and claim the 6-3 victory.
Despite the loss, Transylvania head coach Kevin Calhoun took encouragement from his team's performance on Saturday.
"We continue to improve by doing things that cause success," remarked Calhoun. "As we do those things more and more the results will come. I'm proud of the way our team competed today representing Transylvania athletics."
The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow morning for day two of their trek through Georgia. Transylvania will face off with the Berry College Vikings at the Rome Tennis Center. The match is set for an 11:00 a.m. start.
