Box Score Richmond, Ind. – Lucas Gentry and Gabe Schmitt combined for 46 points as the Transylvania men's basketball team rolled to a 90-71 victory over the Earlham College Quakers at the Druley Performance Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Pioneers improve to 13-7 on the year and 9-4 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The victory also moves the Pioneers into a three-way tie for first place with Franklin and Hanover in the conference standings. The Quakers fall to 7-13 overall and 3-10 in league play with the loss.
Schmitt led the Pioneers with 26 points on an efficient 10-for-15 shooting performance. The senior also grabbed five rebounds and dished out a pair of assists in the victory. Gentry tallied 20 points and 11 rebounds en route to his second double-double of the season.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 14-4 lead over the Quakers five minutes into the game, thanks to four 3-point baskets, three of which were knocked down by Schmitt.
Zach Larimore added seven points and three rebounds in the opening 20 minutes of play, aiding the Pioneers in opening up a 50-37 lead at the halftime break.
Early in the second half, Spencer McKinney knocked down a trio of triples to push Transylvania's lead out to 69-44. McKinney finished the night with 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
A driving layup by Gentry pushed Transylvania's lead to its largest margin of the night at 27 points with 13:30 remaining in the contest.
With the game safely in hand, head coach Brian Lane made extensive use of his bench in the waning moments of the game. 18 different Pioneers saw action as Transylvania secured the 90-71 victory over the Quakers.
The Pioneers will be back at home to face the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers on Saturday, February 8 as they aim for their seventh-straight win. The game is set for a 3:00 p.m. start at the Beck Center.
