Sewanee, Tenn. – The Transylvania field hockey team fell 3-0 in a close battle against the Sewanee Tigers at Puett Field on Saturday afternoon in a conference showdown between the two teams.

The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-12 overall on the year and 0-2 in Southern Athletic Association contests, while the win brings the Tigers to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in SAA play.

Both sides created chances in the first period as they looked to figure out the rhythm of the game. Libby Bringard earned her first save of the game in the 13th minute of the first period off of a Tiger penalty corner. On the offensive end, Makenna Saward saw her effort go wide following a Kayla Bushman penalty corner as the game remained 0-0 going into the quarter break.

The Tigers broke through 30 seconds into the second period with a goal to make it 1-0 in favor of Sewanee. The Pioneer defense stood strong as the home team advantage remained 1-0 going into the final period of action.

Sewanee collected two more goals in the fourth period to complete the scoring at 3-0 and secure the win for the Tigers.

Libby Bringard was strong as the final line of defense for the Pioneers as the freshman earned seven saves on the afternoon.

The Pioneers have an immediate chance at redemption as they face Sewanee again on Sunday, October 10th in a nonconference rematch. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time at Puett Field.
