Box Score Bloomington, Ill. – The Transylvania men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 5-4 match to the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans at the Evergreen Racquet Club on Saturday night.
Trailing early in the match, the Pioneers got a boost from
Noah McNamee, who claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Carter Burk in the No. 3 singles matchup.
Elijah Skaggs delivered Transylvania's other singles victory in the No. 5 matchup. The freshman defeated Dylan Mikaili 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles play, Skaggs and
Arjun Gupta teamed to earn an 8-7 (7-4) victory in the No. 1 matchup, while the duo of
Noah McNamee and
Nick McNamee rolled to an 8-3 win in the No. 2 matchup.
Despite the resilient Pioneers' efforts in doubles play, the Titans escaped with the 5-4 victory to drop Transylvania's record to 1-1 on the season.
The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow to wrap up their trip to Illinois with a matchup against the Milikin University Big Blue. The match is set for an 11:00 a.m. start at Fairview Park Tennis Complex.
