Record-setting day for the Pioneers at the HCAC Championship Meet

HCAC Championships

The Pioneers traveled to Bluffton for the HCAC Championship Meet for the men's and women's teams. The women finished sixth as a team and the men finished fourth as a team.

Freshman Kaycee Moore finished third among the field running the 6k in 23:35.1. She is the new top record time for Transy, breaking former standout Shannon Price's time set in 2003. Moore also earned the HCAC Newcomer of the Year.

"We have had to face a lot of adversity this season and I could not be more proud of this team," said Head Coach Sean McNulty. "Kaycee Moore ran tough behind two seniors to a school record and program highest finish for an individual. Vanessa Alonso stepped up big as our #2 runner just missing out on all-conference in a #7 all time 6k. Camden, Libby, Lawson, and Ellie all ran gutsy races after having been sick last week."

The Pioneers finished fourth as a team. Thor Newsome was named Newcomer of the Meet for Men and recorded the second-best Transy record time of 26:02.

McNulty said of the men's race, "Drew proved today that he belongs in the top of the HCAC and ran a smart race to destroy our school record. Thor moved up from 20th at the mile to 9th at the finish to earn Newcomer of the year. Lucas and Dalton stepped up when we needed them and came in clutch with top 10 all time performances. Really proud of this team and we are just getting started!"

The Pioneers will race at NCAA Regionals November 12th.
