No. 2/4 Transylvania wins big over Anderson on Senior Day

Lexington, Ky. – The No. 2/4 Transylvania women's basketball team used a potent second half to run away with a 78-48 win over the Anderson University Ravens on Saturday afternoon at the Beck Center.

Kennedi Stacy led the charge with a game-high 20 points along with seven rebounds and three assists to power Transylvania's undefeated record to 19-0 overall and 11-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Anderson dropped to 10-12 overall and 7-8 in the conference standings.

The Pioneers began the day with Senior Day celebrations for the team's two seniors, Grace Shope and Grace Bringard. Shope fielded an all-around line of 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals while Bringard put up a game-high three blocks to go with four points on 2 for 2 shooting from the field in her first start of the season.

Anderson put forth an upset-minded first quarter but Stacy dropped home a buzzer-beating runner to hand Transylvania a 16-15 lead at the end of the period.

Both teams struggled from the field in the second quarter but the Pioneers held Anderson to 3 of 15 shooting in the frame to carry a 29-23 lead to the halftime break.

Laken Ball erupted for 12 of her 16 points in the pivotal third quarter that saw Transylvania outscore Anderson 27 to 14. Ball and Stacy ignited an 11-0 run to spot their team a 42-25 lead midway through the third quarter which later ballooned to a 19-point margin by the end.

The Pioneers outscored Anderson 22 to 11 in the final quarter to complete their second half display of dominance and win their eighth game of the season by 30 points or more.

Dasia Thornton led all players with eight rebounds and added eight points in the win on 4 for 8 shooting from the field.

The Pioneers begin the final week of regular season play on Tuesday, February 15 against the Hanover College Panthers in Lexington. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from the Beck Center.
