Lexington, Ky. - The No. 2/4 Transylvania women's basketball team won their 20th straight game to continue their undefeated 2021-22 campaign. The Pioneers defeated the Hanover Panthers with a score of 77-54 at the Beck Center.
Laken Ball led the way in scoring with 17 points on an efficient 7-9 shooting performance. Madison Kellione also chipped in with 14 points of her own, along with 4 assists. Sadie Wurth was a jolting spark off of the bench with 9 points including back-to-back three-pointers in just 27 seconds during the 3rd quarter.
The first five minutes were a tight contest as both teams were fighting for control of the lead. At the midway point of the opening quarter, the Pioneers unleashed a 15-0 run and never looked back, building a commanding 24-12 lead at the end of the first and ending the half up 50-26.
Transy kept their foot on the gas throughout the second half, maintaining at least a 20 point lead the rest of the way. On the defensive side, the Pioneers recorded 11 steals to the Panthers' 3. Dasia Thornton grabbed a game-leading 8 rebounds with 6 of them coming on the defensive end.
Head Coach Juli Fulks complimented her team's execution, saying "Our staff was proud of the effort we gave on the boards and our continued commitment to sharing the ball on offense. That combination has played a critical role all season and it was great to put together another strong effort at home."
The Transylvania women's basketball team aim to complete the undefeated regular season as they travel to Richmond, Indiana to take on the Earlham College Quakers on Friday, February 18th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
