Memphis, Tn. – The Transylvania women's lacrosse team battled hard against another strong opponent, but fell to the Rhodes College Lynx on Sunday by a final score of 19-8.
Just 28 seconds into the contest,
Abbey Peterson scored her 15
th of the season to give the Pioneers an early lead. However, the Lynx responded with five straight goals.
Diana Bruder scored on a player up opportunity, on an assist from Peterson, but shortly after Rhodes scored two more to up ahead 7-2. With just 00:01 on the clock in the opening quarter, Peterson struck again and the Pioneers trailed by four after one.
Unfortunately for Transylvania, the Lynx took control in the second quarter with six unanswered to go ahead by ten goals.
Mandi Rider's unassisted tally put one on the board for Transy, and they trailed 13-4 at the half.
Peterson notched a hat trick in the third quarter, but Rhodes led 18-5 going into the fourth. Faced with a sizeable deficit, Transylvania finished the afternoon on a positive note, as they outscored Rhodes 3-1 in the quarter. Rider scored two to earn the hat trick, and at the 01:01 mark, Peterson recorded her fourth goal of the game in another great offensive performance from the junior attacker. The clock ran out and Transy lost by a final score of 19-8.
After two straight road matchups against tough teams, the Pioneers return home next Wednesday, March 23, to host Allegheny College at Pat Deacon Stadium with a 7:00 PM start.
