Orlando, Fl. - Over the week of spring break the Transylvania men's tennis team were scheduled to take on five different schools over a six-day span. Due to weather, they only ended up playing three of their matches. Those matches were against Connecticut College, Bethel University (MN), and Carthage College.
Although the Pios left Orlando without notching one in the win column, they faced top notch competition, which helped their team grow exponentially. The trip to Orlando should help them greatly when they go into conference play, starting next weekend against Hanover. The team has high expectations for their conference run and looks to build on this young spring season.
Head coach Kevin Calhoun was proud of the way his team played and was grateful for the opportunity to go to Florida as a group, saying: "We played a lot of good teams and learned a lot as a group. This will show in conference play starting next week as we learned a lot of lessons through experiences. I'm grateful for the opportunity to go to Florida and compete as Transylvania University provided the time for us to grow as a team and to have a rare experience to build chemistry and learn as a group."
The Pioneers head into their conference stretch of matches this upcoming weekend and are eager to get started. Their first conference match is against Hanover at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky, on March 26 with an 11:00 AM scheduled start.Â
