Transylvania men's tennis come up short in weekend matches vs Anderson and Franklin

Anderson & Franklin Ind. - The Transylvania men's tennis team traveled to Indiana for matches against both Anderson University Ravens and Franklin College Grizzlies over the weekend, taking on the Ravens on Saturday, and the Grizzlies on Sunday. The Pioneers played well and fought hard but ultimately fell short, losing 5-3 to Anderson and 6-3 to Franklin.   

Against Anderson, the duo of Hunter Gregg and Lane Thomas came up with a win in No. 3 Doubles, 8-7 with a 7-2 tiebreaker. The senior Gregg then played in No. 4 Singles, and came up just short, losing in three sets of a tightly matched contest.

In singles Elijah Skaggs took a win in No. 2 Singles quite convincingly, 6-0 & 6-1. Ty Crabtree also prevailed in No. 5 Singles, with a final score of 6-4 & 7-6 winning the tiebreaker 7-5. Although they captured victorties in No. 3 doubles and No. 2 and 5 singles, Transylvania lost the match by a final score of 5-3.

The Pioneers then traveled to Franklin College to face the Grizzlies on Sunday, where Jared Wells and Hunter Gregg picked up a win in #2 doubles, 8-6. The pair of Nick McNamee and Elijah Skaggs, playing in the #1 spot, lost in an intense 8-7 battle that came down to the wire.

Playing in No. 1 Singles, McNamee won in three sets.  Sophomore Lane Thomas also earned a win in the No. 5 spot for Transy, also taking it in three sets, however the Pioneers were defeated by a 6-3 final score altogether. 

The team is back in Indiana next weekend, to play Rose-Hulman in another conference matchup, on Saturday, April 16th with an 11:00 AM scheduled start.
