Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

#15 Transy Volleyball sweeps Franklin to earn its sixth straight victory

The sweep is the fourth in a row for the Pioneers

LEXINGTON - #15 Transy Volleyball improved to 14-5 overall and 2-0 in the HCAC after sweeping Franklin College 25-14, 27-25, and 25-10. It's the sixth consecutive victory for Transy and the fourth straight sweep in a row. Transy has swept their opponents in five of their last six matches.

The Pioneers offense continued their hot streak of impressive performances, hitting .446 on the night. The back line held their own, holding Franklin to .130 overall and .0 in the final set.

Transy led in every statistical category except on blocks, but out-hit Franklin in kills 49-32.  Cate Scheper led all players on the floor with 14 kills. It's the most for her since the September 16th match vs then #7 WashU.

The Pioneers survived a late scare in the second set. After being up 21-14, Franklin sprung together a 5-0 run before Isabella Myers ended it with a kill. The Grizzlies then scored 5 of the next 6 points to take a 24-23 lead and put Transy on its heals for the first time throughout the match. A kill by Kayden Holcomb tied the set at 24-24 before a Scheper kill and an attack error by Franklin gave the Pioneers the set two victory.

TU made quick work of the Grizzlies in set three. After early back and forth points, Transy went on an 11-0 run to jump out to a 17-4 lead to put the Grizzlies away early. Suzanne Klosterman had 3 of her 13 kills in the run.

The win moves Transy to 13-3 all time vs Franklin College. It's the third win in a row over the Grizzlies and the 7th win in the last 8 matchups vs FC. Transy has swept the Grizzlies in each victory dating back to 2016.

"Once we settled in and focused on our ball control and our first ball contact we were able to do what we wanted on offense." Head Coach Amy Barmore said.

Barmore gave praise to Cate Scheper and Suzanne Klosterman after the win. "Both of them are getting better each game, which is good for our offense and we can continue to spread it around."

Setter Grace Ward finished the night with 41 assists, the most for her since the win over Ohio Northern on September 22nd. Ward was able to set the offense up to attack the Grizzlies the entire match.

"We play our game every single night," Ward said. "Obviously I couldn't have gotten 41 assists without my hitters. They really brought it tonight and powered through the block."

On the defensive side, Ava Beltsos finished the match with 15 digs. Megan Sweeney finished with 8 and Kennedy Beatty finished with 6. Cate Scheper and Cecelia Robert's finished with 2 blocks each and Suzanne Klosterman finished with 1.

Kayden Holcomb finished the night with 8 kills and Maggie Harrison had an ace in the win. Jasmine Koonce had 3 kills on 4 attempts.

Transy will stay on the road for a few matches, with a conference matchup at Bluffton next Saturday. They'll face the Beavers before taking on Ohio Wesleyan right after in Bluffton, Ohio. A quick turnaround will see the Pioneers take on Defiance College next Sunday at 2 PM for their second HCAC matchup in as many days.
