LEXINGTON - Transy Field Hockey earned their 4th win of the season Sunday afternoon, snapping a six game losing streak, defeating Concordia-Wisconsin in a shootout, 1-0. The Pioneers defeated the Falcons 2-1 in the shootout to end the weekend.
The Pioneers fended off 10 Falcon penalty corners, with
Libby Bringard making huge saves along with defensive stops by
Madison Mullan,
Avery Hoover,
Sophia Sparks, and
Grace Smilek. Transy had 12 saves total in the win.
Neither team found the back of the cage in regulation or in overtime, and would need a shootout to decide a winner. It was the first time either team has been in a shootout this season.
Sidney Aldridge scored the first shootout goal, going left past the goalkeeper and easily putting the ball into the back of the cage.
Libby Bringard would then save the first three shootout attempts vs the Falcons to keep Transy up a shootout goal in the best of five round. Concordia Wisconsin finally edged one past Bringard, but in the fourth round
Madison Mullan scored one of the most impressive goals of the season, keeping the ball off the ground the entire attempt as she bounced the ball off her stick, then smacked it up over the goalie's head into the back of the cage to bring the Pioneer faithful to their feet. Bringard then saved the final shot to give Transy the 1-0 victory and end the longest game of the season for both teams this season.
Transy will hit the road for the next four games, taking on Wittenberg this Tuesday at 7 PM in Springfield, Ohio.
