Thornton earns double-double in No. 1 Transylvania's 54-48 win over Wisconsin-Lutheran in Pat Deacon Classic

Thornton scores 25 points, grabs 13 rebounds

LEXINGTON - No. 1 Transylvania Women's Basketball defeated Wisconsin-Lutheran College 54-48 on Sunday afternoon behind Dasia Thornton's first double-double of the season. Thornton led all scorers with 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the win. With the win, Transylvania finishes the Pat Deacon Classic 2-0 and earns their 36th straight win, the most in NCAA DIII.

Transylvania ended the first quarter trailing 10-15, something the Pioneers haven't done much of in their last 35 games. After being down 20-12, Transy went on a 14-5 run to end the half, as with just three seconds left Kennedy Stacy hit a layup to give Transy its first lead since the first four minutes of the first quarter.

The Pioneers scored the first 10 points of the second half, extending their lead to 36-25 to hold WLC to no points for more than half the third quarter. The Warriors would get their first points of the second half with back to back free throws at the 4:24 mark and would explode for 10 straight points of their own, making it a 1 point game with under 10 seconds to go in the third quarter. Sadie Wurth stopped the Warrior run and drained a three point shot with just 2 seconds left in the quarter to give Transy a 4 point lead.

The Pioneers extended their lead to 7 points with just five minutes to play in the game and after WLC made it a 2 point game in its under a minute left, Transylvania turned the ball over to give the Warriors one chance to tie or take the lead. After a missed three pointer, Sadie Wurth was fouled and made both free throws to cushion the lead.

Dasia Thornton scored the game's final 2 points on free throws to give her a season high 25.

Following the Pat Deacon Classic, Kennedi Stacy was named to the all-tournament team following her 34 point, 13 rebound weekend. She finished the final game with 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
