Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse lose to Centre in heated instate rival game, 6-14

Our Pioneers Men's Lacrosse team didn't have to travel far for this game as they visited Centre College in Danville, Kentucky for their second game of the season. The Pioneers are coming off of a loss in their previous game but looked to use this game as motivation to find chemistry and band together as playing in state rival Centre always brings an extra level. Sadly this game didn't go the Pios way getting out played in the first quarter even with a spirited second half game.

The first quarter started with the Pioneers finding the cage first with Senior Seiver Utsey, netting the first goal. After this however the Pioneers fell into a slump falling behind from here on out which was a shame due to how well the team played from this quarter on. Once this quarter ended however it seems head coach Logan Otto was able to light a fire under his team as they came out in the second quarter playing much differently.

The Second quarter slowed down for the Pioneers as they were able to get plenty of offensive looks taking the most shots out of the game in this quarter. Transylvania was also able to hold Centre defensively as the Colonels got off their lowest amount of shots this quarter. While being down our Men were able to stay the course and made in game adjustments to build on, going into half 2-11.

The Second half was a different game for our Pioneers as they scored the first two goals of this quarter both coming from PreSeason All-American Dalton Hubbs. We also saw improvement from Goalie Topher Hays as he made 5 saves in just this quarter which got him into his rhythm. For this rhythm to carry over into the next competition will be key as Hays has shown incredible potential in between the pipes.

The fourth quarter was also at a pace Transy helped dictate as Tucker Strode won the opening faceoff which is an area the Pios are improving at, going 5-20 this game. The Pioneers were also able to net a man up goal from Dolton Hubbs giving him 3 in this game, which is two games in a row Hubbs had a hat trick. This man up goal was the first of the game getting 5 total opportunities man up which show areas that the Pioneers can take advantage of. This game came to an end totaling 6-14 in a Pio loss.

After the lose, head coach Logan Otto had this to say:

"This was definitely a tough result for us as the Centre game is always a big one. Outside of the first quarter we played a tight game and fought through some adversity. We look forward to continuing our improvement towards our next game."

The next game for the Pioneers will again be on the road as they travel to Memphis Tennessee, where Rhodes and the Bats will face off at 2:00PM. For more information on Transylvania men's lacrosse, follow @Transy_Lax on Twitter.
