Our Pioneers played at home this weekend again after playing Wednesday night as they came into this game against Baldwin Wallace battling tough conditions. Today was cold and wet as our Pioneers had to deal with conditions adding to the variability of problems for our Men's team. Baldwin Wallace came into this day after defeating Berry in their Thursday game here in Lexington as they are on of the top teams in D3 Lacrosse. Today didn't go in the Pios favor as they fell to Baldwin Wallace 7-14.
The first half for the Pioneers started slow offensively as our first goal of the game came at the 6 minute mark of the first quarter. Samuel Archer took matters into his own hands when scoring this goal as he ripped this shot unassisted as he would be the only Pio to score this half. Making his season debut at goalie was sophomore, Jackson Wilson. Wilson had a career game with a new career high in the following categories; saves with 6, then shots faced with 19, time played with 38 minutes.
The second half we saw much improvement coming from our offense as we netted 6 goals coming from an array of people. Ryan Geisler scored first this half from a great pass coming from Casey Fagan. The following goal Fagan collected on his playmaking and scored himself with the pass from Tai Stormont. From here on the Pioneers scoring was unassisted as Transy tried to claw their way back into this one. Goals came from Dalton Hubbs, followed by Tai Stormont, followed by Will Warner, then the last goal of the game being delivered by Hubbs again to give him 2 on the day.
Head Coach Logan Otto had this to say after the game:
"We are playing some tremendous teams and right now our team is learning what it takes to compete with NCAA tournament caliber teams. We showed a lot of fight today and closed the gap. I know we will continue to grow from this."
With this game turning into a valuable learning experience the Pioneers will look to the road to show their next couple of opponents what this team can muster. The next game is March 15th against Capital in Columbus Ohio at 3PM. For more information on Transylvania men's lacrosse, follow @Transy_Lax on Twitter.
