The Pioneers were on the road again this weekend as they took on the Wittenberg Tigers in Springfield, Ohio. The Pios are in a road stretch as this is the second game in a row where the Pios not only have to battle their opponent but the hostile environment. This game didn't result in a Pioneers win however, falling to the Tigers 8-14.
The Pioneers started hot with Will Warner getting the first goal for the Pios after Dalton Hubbs caused the Tigers turnover. Hubbs along with his fantastic offensive capabilities is also leading the team in caused turnovers from the Midfield position. Hubbs of course was dialed in offensively as he had the second goal for the Pioneers in the second quarter. Transylvania had 21 shots in the first half compared to Wittenbergs 17. Before the half ended Luke Stetter made a point to score as he buried his first of two on the game with a minute left. At the half, the Pioneers trailed 3-11.
The second half was a different game for the Pioneers as we saw a goalie change to start the half with Wilson Jackson replacing Hays. The Pios have cleared well all season and in this game that was no different with Transy going 22-25 today. Will Warner was the only Pio to score in the third earning his second and last goal of the contest.
In the fourth, Transy made another goalie change bringing in Ethan Kroll. Kroll had a career high 3 saves to go along his shutout this quarter, instilling energy for Transy as they scored four goals and held the Tigers to zero. Luke Stetter got his second goal early in this quarter which opened up Preston Weinberg for his shot and goal, assisted by Ryan Geisler. Dalton Hubbs also added his third of the game.
After the game head coach Logan Otto had this to say:Â
"Our team battled hard today and we are continuing to work to get a complete game before conference play. Our guys are giving everything they have and we look forward to continue our forward development."
The Transylvania Pioneers have shown so much improvement from previous games and it is apparent that this team builds and grows each time we see them. As the Pios continue their road trips they look to Denison on Wednesday March 29th at 7PM in Granville, OH.
