Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse battle with Berry in this week's 3 team round robin

Our Pioneers played at home today as they faced off against Berry College from Georgia. The Pioneers came off of their first win of the season last Saturday as they defended home turf against Birmingham Southern. This game is the first of a little round robin Transy is hosting this week as Berry and Baldwin Wallace have traveled to Lexington as each team will play each other this week. Today's game however didn't go in the Pioneers way as they fell to Berry 7-9. Berry is one of the top teams in their conference (SAA) which has been the trend for the Pioneers this season playing one of their toughest schedules. The Pioneers playing in just their third home game of the season were still able to show the offensive firepower the team hones.

This game our usual suspects fueled the offense with Warner and Hubbs stacking our offensive stats having 2 a piece. Warner has slid down to more of an attack spot this season as the Pioneers now have an elite 3 attackmen being Warner, Fagan, and Utsey. All of which provide something different in their skills as all three of them recorded a goal tonight.

Utsey got his goal through a fantastic one on one play faking out his defender off of a hesitation to Utsey's left, finishing the bouncer right. Fagan was able to clean up on the crease and put it around the goalie picking up his goal from a fantastic individual effort from the assist man AJ Teague. Teague made this play with a caused turnover sprint out to start the fast break, finding Fagan for this goal.

The defense today had plenty of shining opportunities that was orchestrated by Aj Teague's defense earning 5 caused turnovers and 7 ground balls. Quarterbacking from Goalie, Topher Hays, helped the defense as he had another great game having 9 saves. This was all brought together by Sophomore Ben Marcum who has seemed to be fully back from his injuries last year. Ben had a career high 7 caused turnovers last game and in this game Marcum had 6 caused turnovers with 5 ground balls to boot.

" A tough result from a tough Berry squad. We are going to continue improving and working to build upon our lessons learned for our next game," said Coach Otto.

Upcoming on our Pioneers schedule will be Baldwin Wallace who we play Sunday at noon after they take on Berry Friday afternoon. The Pioneers have a lot of opportunities to make some moves this week and a win Sunday would help that.  For more information on Transylvania men's lacrosse, follow @Transy_Lax on Twitter.
